It took forever but finally Miss Debbie (The mama pig not the game player) came through with a fantastic litter of 12 ! As you can see above, Debbie farrowed outside at the far end of her maternity pasture. She had a nice hutch to use if she had wanted but it was a calm and starry night. I would have given birth outside too !
One was still born but that left us with 11 healthy, squirming full blooded Red Wattle hogettes. Their critically endangered status is just a little less critical . Born late night (11 pm ) on July 31 the gender count is 6 girls and 5 boys.

Her prize is her choice of a $25 gift certificate for our Farm Store or a T-shirt or 4 bars of Midlife Farmwife Hand crafted soap.
Ironically, Deb (the lady not the pig) is coming by our farm this evening to buy some of Keith's specialty organic grain mix he has concocted for our own hogs. She is new to pigs and just bought her first Red Wattles from us several months ago. She is officially hooked on the breed so it too cool that she won this contest.
Congratulations to the two Deb's !!
Congrats to Deb, both of them. Eleven little piggies...what a haul.
ReplyDeleteHey, allow me to squeal with delight over the news. However, it's a shame one of the little piggies didn't make it.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Deb for winning the prize in "Lets Make a Squeal". Very clever play on words. And no, I'm not going to attempt to hog the attention and try to come up with some pig type puns. That would be such a boar...
Take very good care and keep smiling :)
